Merle breeding is not to take lightly. At first I was not for the breeding of the merle color. After a lot of research (and I mean a lot), we have come to the conclusion it can be done in a safe manner which will produce healthy puppies. I do believe breeding merle does need to be for more experienced breeders that do understand the color markers and how they work. Here is a quick overview of how it should be done safely:

If you breed a merle (Mm) to a non-merle (mm) you will on average produce a litter in which a half of the puppies get the M allele so are Mm (merle) and half get the non-merle allele so are mm.

You will probably never get a full litter of merles, but merle is definitely a case where to much of a good thing is well a bad thing.

We here at Topdog have decided to do a merle breeding, and we will be going at this a different approach than most.

All XL American Bully merle puppies will come with ABKC papers only, they will not be UKC registered,  As UKC does not recognize this color for the American Bully, as it is a disqualification the show ring. Some other breeders will try and sell you merle pups with UKC papers they and you are taking the chance of getting your and their papers pulled and banned from the UKC.

We will also make any breeder buying the pups to sign a contract stating that said dog can never be bred back to another merle.

These are designer dogs and will be sold as designer dogs, not as UKC show quality pups as in our standard breeding program.
